schaub is out and with the awesome peformance by case keenum means that he should take over shaubs position but they are still 2-5 and still have a couple hard teams to face for example they have indy next week on sunday night and still have to deal with tennesse who is above them in the division......can they still make the playoffs even with a couple hard teams along the way of the schedule even at 2-5....plus we lost cushing :(

They can, but they will have to win the division to do so. We know one of the two Wild Cards will come out of the AFC West. Then you have the Chargers, Bengals, Ravens, Steelers, Titans and Jets all vying for that last spot. There is a lot of tough competition in the AFC. I don't see Houston beating New England or Denver. If they win the rest of their games, they're 9-7. There are two games that I don't think Indianapolis will win - at Cincinnati and at Kansas City. That makes the two Houston/Indianapolis games important. The Texans have to at least split with them and hope Indy drops a game elsewhere (@ Tennessee, perhaps). The Colts play Jacksonville at home week 17, so there will be a lot of pressure on Houston to wrap up a playoff spot after 16, because there's no way the Colts lose that one at Lucas Oil.

I really think Houston should have waited to start Case following the bye week. I believe that for two reasons.

#1 - It'd give him more time to prepare.

#2 - Houston wasn't going to beat Kansas City anyway, and now their next opponent (Indy) has game film on him.

There is some good news. Last night was an emotional performance, an emotional win. The last time the Colts had an emotional win (last year against Green Bay when we learned Chuck Pagano had cancer), they got rocked against the Jets the following week. Of course, they didn't have a bye week between games. 2-5 in the AFC West would be trouble, but the Texans still have a shot as it is in the South.

Case played about as good as we could have realistically hoped. He needs to remain the starter. He made plays with his feet and kept plays alive, something Schaub can't do. With two weeks of prep before the Indy game, I think he can exploit the Colt and we can walk away with a W. There are only 3 games left on the schedule that are scary. The Colts away, Pats at home (they have shown they are not the same Pats as before) and Broncos at home (That Secondary could get eaten alive by Keenum) . If our boys play like they did Yesterday, we can still make the playoffs. Winning the Division is unlikely.

@K.O.F - They got manhandled by the Chiefs? I would hardly call 17-16 a "manhandling". Also keep in mind the Texans were without Foster for pretty much the entire game.

Anyway, no, I don't think the Texans will make the playoffs but they realistically still can. I highly doubt they can come back and win the division over the Colts so they need a wildcard spot (one of which will probably be either the Broncos or Chiefs).

It's possible for the Texans to finish 11-5. If they do, they're probably in the playoffs. It's likely that the Texans are headed for something closer to 5-11, in which case they'll finish far out of playoff contention. The NFL playoffs have included 6 teams per conference since the 1990 season. Since then, the overwhelming majority of teams which have started 2-5 have not made the playoffs. But four have:

1990 Saints - 8-8, 2nd in NFC West, 6th seed, lost at Bears 16-6 in WC round

1995 Lions - 10-6, 2nd in NFC Central, 5th seed, lost at Eagles 58-37 in WC round

2002 Jets - 9-7, 1st in AFC East, 4th seed, defeated Colts at home 41-0 in WC round, lost at Raiders 30-10 in Div. Playoffs

2011 Broncos - 8-8, 1st in AFC West, 4th seed, defeated Steelers at home 29-23 (OT) in WC round, lost at Patriots 45-10 in Div. Playoffs

still technically possible but highly unlikely. they're 2-6 now after loss to Indy. their best bet is to get the wild card but they have to win most of the rest of their games and hope for the rest of the conference to lose most of theirs which, again, is highly unlikely. the way I see it since Denver and Kansas City are in same division, that's one wild card spot already taken since both are obviously heading to playoffs. and with teams like Cincinnati and jets doing surprisingly well and ahead of the Texans at this point of the season, they are obvious playoff contenders as well. if this were the NFC North you could make the argument that it is a toss up as there is a three way tie for first place. but being one of the worst three teams in the conference right now is not promising at all and although it is still slightly possible I'm not seeing the playoffs this year.

K.O.F fan you won by 1 point to a team that didn't have Arian Foster, Brian Cushing, or Duane Brown. Not to mention it was in Kansas City. The Chiefs are not very good.

They would need to start winning...

I could be wrong but I think the Giants were 2 - 4 when Fassel made the playoff guarantee.

Its possible but not likely. They have to win th next 10 or 11 games and colts lose some to win the division. wildcard spot is more llikely but even that will be hard to reach

Nope. Especially getting manhandled in KC. That lost their hopes in the playoffs because the Chiefs defense ate them alive and they lose their soul.

They would have to go no less than 8-1 to have a shot at making it.

I would say they would have to win the rest of their games to make the playoffs...
