Anyone who was a fan of the NFL in the 70's knows that the Raiders had the reputation of being the dirtiest football team, as they were the most penalized team. The Steelers were considered to be the meanest team, they had the steel curtain.

i think of the Raiders had extra characters. You did no longer say who became the winningest franchise of the 70's, your mentioned some thing else. I submit to in concepts the two communities of that era. The Steelers have been that good, however the dirtiest, meanest, and harsh human beings/play got here from Oakland. you may purely seem at their "undesirable boy" photograph right this moment. They have been on condition that from the 70's. Nicknames incorporate: the mad bomber, the choose, the murderer, Dr. dying, the snake, ghost, and a lot of extra. Even the followers, proprietor, and coach (Madden) have been given into the act. The Raiders via some distance. They weren't the main penalized team for the time of that era for no longer something.

The Raiders or the '70's were well know as the dirtiest buchj out there.

"The rivalry between the Raiders and the New England Patriots dates to their time in the AFL, but was intensified during a 1978 preseason game, when Patriots wide receiver Darryl Stingley was permanently paralyzed after a vicious hit delivered by Raiders defensive back Jack Tatum"

" Raiders strong safety George Atkinson delivered a hit on Pittsburgh wide receiver Lynn Swann that gave him a concussion. When the two teams met in the 1976 season opener, Atkinson hit Swann again and gave him another concussion. After the second incident, Steelers head coach Chuck Noll referred to Atkinson as part of the "criminal element" in the NFL. Atkinson subsequently filed a $2 million defamation lawsuit against Noll and the Steelers, which Atkinson lost"

1970s Steelers because not only were they mean, but it just wasn't fair how much better they were than everyone else. I mean c'mon, what are the best football teams of all time doing beating up on a bunch of cupcakes like that. Those bullies! They should have played teams full of gorillas and elephants occasionally mixing in some lions, bears, tigers, and Greek gods, etc, because then the opposing team might have had a shot at keeping it competitive.

I'd say the Raiders on both accounts, but the Steelers were usually the all around better team. I would rather have the dirty and mean Raiders team over the crappy and poorly operated Raiders of today

The Raiders were definitely the dirtiest. I think they narrowly beat out the Cardinals with Dan Dierdorf and Conrad Dobler (the dirtiest OL I ever saw).

The meanest was definitely the Steelers with that awesome Steel Curtain defense. Any one of those players could and would hit an opposing player with unbelievable viciousness. Just look at a picture of Jack Ham and Jack Lambert at LB and without teeth they look mean. Joe "Mean Joe" Greene along with his linemates were a force to be reckoned with.

Steelers, no question. Very dirty team and the dirtiest play of all was the Immaculate Reception in 1972. No way was that legal under the rules at that time.
