Question:
Why does the BCS rankings suck?

I'm really typing this more of a complaint over anything else but the BCS rankings and all the voters suck! Take a team like Texas A&M for example who have the hardest schedule in college football this year and finished with a 9-3 record beating 2 teams in the top 10, Nebraska and Oklahoma and they did that the past 4 weeks. They were ranked 17th going into sunday after beating a sub par Texas team and winning 6 straight to end the season. So how is it after all that they drop a spot in the rankings to now 18. This is ridiculous and the BCS and all the voters seem to favor teams over others. Nevada was ranked 19 and they jumped to 14 just for beating Boise State ( who showed their real colors friday). So Nevada's joke of a schedule and their one top 10 win trumps A&Ms hardest schedule and there 2 top 10 wins. I'm not saying Nevada shouldn't of rose but just not over A&M who has been flawless in the past 2 months. BCS is corrupt! Thoughts???

If A&M won out you wouldnt be complaining about eh BCS. The only group to fault is A&M. They knew the outcome and the rules that decided who wins the big 12 title and accpeted them. If they would have won it they would have nothing to complain about. Even the coach said the same thing

It isn't just your record. There are a lot of things to take into consideration. The computers also look at the teams you have played and how they did that week. There was a week when Florida State, Air Force, Cincinnati, and Utah State all lost and it killed OU in the rankings. Sometimes it isn't just about what you did, it is about the teams you played and how they performed. In this case I feel A&M did get shafted. I seriously doubt they should have been in any contention to jump OSU or OU seeing as how they have 1 more loss than both of those schools. But I see what you're saying. They really should have moved up more or at least not moved back. But you also got to look at what teams around them are doing. Nevada for instance. They were 19th and beat the #4 team in the country. With only one loss, they moved ahead of A&M. Things like that will get you moved back in the rankings when you are lower than 10th. It sucks but it's just the way it is.

The BCS sucks for reasons that you fail to mention. But let's start with what you did mention. For starters, Texas A&M's schedule isn't that tough when you think about it, especially compared to teams like Iowa (who played Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Arizona) or Oregon State (who plays Stanford, Oregon, TCU, Arizona, and Boise State, all teams that when Oregon State played/plays them were/are ranked in the top 10). Plus, you can't forget about the "other" games on Texas A&M's schedule, you know, against Stephen F. Austin, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, and Kansas (currently one of the worst BCS schools).

To take that a little further, how does Boise State losing on a missed FG "show their true colors", especially since they are one of the few teams in all of college that teams WON'T schedule?

But the reason why the BCS sucks, is because it weighs a conference schedule more than a non-conference schedule, which basically allows teams to schedule weak non-conference games. Also, its about popularity. If Boise State hadn't lost this weekened, Stanford would more than likely be left out of the BCS, not because they aren't a good team, but because they don't have a big enough fanbase, which BCS officals were afraid that nobody would watch Stanford, and that Stanford wouldn't be able to bring enough fans with them.

A system becomes truly sad when you start deciding to ignore good teams simply based their fanbase isn't big enough.

The BCS does suck, but it is much better than the previous system where the media and coaches simply voted on a National Champion. And, it has ensured better matchups in the bowl games. There is also a 1 versus 2 now for all the marbles.

I'm not sure what system would work, there would always be a debate over who was in a playoff as well. I don't know if there is a right answer.

I agree.

However, you should come up with a better methode of ranking. All the BCS does is take the average from the Harris, USA Today, and computer polls. All those voters seem to do is vote on a team's record.

The game with the most impact will be Arizona State vs Oregon Winners: Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon, Florida State Losers: LSU, Wisconsin, Boston College, Arizona State

I don't like defending the BCS, but you are off base here. For starters, A&M's schedule is only ranked ninth right now. And A&M dropped in the BCS because the AP poll has them down two spots. So blame the writers, not the BCS.

cuz they cater to the big schools. Auburn jumped oregon and tcu when they never should have. it should be 1 Oregon 2 tcu and 3 auburn. there's no reason auburn should have jumped both of them. (or even Boise state who was undefeated at the time) so yea the BCS is def. currupt. that y it cant even b called the national championship game anymore, it has to b called the bcs title game. its complete garbage. i mean how many people need to say that they should have playoffs for them to listen

Do you really think this argument hasn't been made? I agree. It's stupid. Nevada deserved to jump. They beat the #4 team (whether Boise deserved that high ranking or not.)

I hope your stupid Aggies enjoyed your win Thursday night. Once little Colt McCoy take the wheel over the choke artist Garrett Gilbert, we'll be back on top of the Big 12 South.

Hook 'em> Gig 'em.

@ guy with Colt McCoy graduated remark. He did, but his little brother is in his Freshman year at UT. Looks much more promising than Colt.

I thought Colt McCoy graduated..... BCS is still better than it was. I have seen an unbeaten Oklahoma go to Orange Bowl and an unbeaten Ohio State go to the Rose and they never played each other
