Question:
In football, what is a "dink and dunk" offense? Is it effective than more normal kinds of offense?

I heard people talking about offenses in NFL. I've heard about the west coast offense, although I only know the most basics about it. Then I heard them talking about the dink and dunk offense. What the heck is it and is it a good strategy to use as opposed to the west coast offense (whatever that is) or the play action offense. I barely know the details of all the offenses, so if any of you want to describe the other types of offense feel free, but I want to know what the "dink and dunk" offense is first. Thanks for your time.

Dink and Dunk offense is an offense that relies on short passes, short runs and moves the ball in that kind of manner.

Some would say that alot of the west coast offense is a dink and dunk offense. The west coast offense uses alot of short slant passes and quick screen passes

"Dink and Dunk" offense is an offense built around very short gains on every down. That offense wants to move the ball 3-7 or 8 yards every play. With that style, you will see alot of swing passes to the running backs, short out or slant patterns for wide receivers and tight ends.

The West Coast offense is similar to the "d&d". It is all about timing. Instead of the trowing "at" receivers, the QB will throw the ball to a certain spot, expecting the receiver to get there as soon as the ball does.

Only other offenses are the "Spread"(offense built for passing, at least three WRs on the field at all times. QB usually in a shotgun postion.Think New England Patriots) Then theres the "Vertical"(used with a handfull of speed type WRs. Think Moss when he was with Culpepper in Minnesota, or St. Louis Rams, when they were called the "Greatst Show on Turf")

Hope that helped you out.

Dink and dunk is a great offense to run when a defense blitz's a lot or when your running game isn't working. Favre did a lot of that right before halftime, works good when you try to run a hurry up offense.

dink and dunk offense is a short passing game

the spread offense is where you spread the field and throw and pass.

the west coast offense is well it's boring and similar to the dink and dunk passing game
