Don Shula is the only coach to coach a perfect season, if you define a perfect season as no ties, as well as no losses. The 1929 Green Bay Pack was 12-0-1. There was no playoff until 1932. A few others were undefeated also before they started playoffs. Canton Bulldogs were 10-0-2 in 1922. Akron Pros were 8-0-3 in 1920.

Then again, it is a business. Three teams came over from the defunct All American Football Conference in 1950 and a fourth one was divided up in to two different NFL teams.
