I do not believe that racism is a factor in the treatment of Michael Vick. To believe that I would have to believe that a white athlete in a similar position would be less vilified and I sincerely doubt that. A close analogy to this situation would be the Duke Lacrosse scandal. As soon as the accusations were leveled, they were adjudged guilty in the Court of Public Opinion. The University promptly canceled the teams season and the faculty at Duke in large called for the player's expulsion. Several of the senior players has already graduated and had scored job/intern offers that were promptly taken off the table. That is not disimilar to what is happening to Michael Vick.

The two cases do underscore the continuing racial divide in this country. Whites are more likely to come to a quick judgment when the accused is black and simarly blacks make the same decision when the accused is white. I find it telling that some of the same organizations( NAACP) that had no objection to "convicting " the Duke Lacrosse players before all the evidence was in are now counseling patience and understanding for Michael Vick.

Yup, it is a racism thing. Don't let anybody fool you and say "ohh, here in the good ol U.S. of A. we don't have racism" because they are the ones being ignorant. Racism will always be here, the media will not let that die, as well as those who support it. It makes me sick when people try to sweep s#it under the rug, and try to focus people's opinions on other non-facts, when indeed racism is apart of this trial. If it wasn't, white people wouldn't bring up O.J. There were the riots in L.A. because of the Rodney King beating, if not for that, those cops would've gotten off. Some white people think that they are slick, but when you go the Malcolm X route, people tend to do the right thing. Just think about it, how long was Cheney in the "spotlight" after he shot a dude, drunk and no license mind you, while hunting?

FACT CHECK: Michael Vick is the 22nd ranked quarterback in the NFL, had a 75.7% passer rating, threw for a pathetic 154 yards per game on average, threw 13 interceptions, his team finished 3rd in the NFC South, and the Falcons finished 7-9. Statistics don't care what color you are! When you suck, you suck!

(flipping off fans, getting caught with bong water at the airport, and being under federal investigation for dog fighting and animal torture makes him even more unlikeable!)

No, I dont think this is a sign of racism in america. Michael Vick is discusting andhe deserves anything and everything he gets and more. And I am not racist if this was a white guy I would 110% think the same. And I was a fan of Vick before all this happened.

the dog thing is the dog thing...that notwithstanding, I remember him dogging the home fans (classless), the Ron Mexico thing(classless), the hidden compartment (come on...) and the fact that in college they threw out more than half the playbook so he could run the offense, he couldnt read defenses so no way to be successful in the pocket...and they gave this clown 130 million (more than any other QB, even those with multiple rings)...which Im sure the falcons owner regrets to high heaven now...its not about race, its about an idiot who makes millions being an athlete, being looked up to (ridiculous) by kids as a role model...too many tips to his real persona here people...get a clue...I dont want him dead, just for the media to stop glorifying this overhyped, overpaid athlete...

Here it goes, I'm black and I don't like Michael Vick. I think he's a **** quarterback and is WAY overrated on the field. While I would like to defend him, only because I would hope no one would be so cruel to dogs, they're so cute, when the Feds get involved, that means it's serious and they usually have a mountain of evidence against you.

The only thing I try to wonder, and I have a hard time remembering since it was a while ago, did people hate Ray Lewis this much when he, allegedly, killed a PERSON?

He is innocent until proven guilty, but the federal government doesn't make a habit of bringing charges against someone they likely can't convict. Its pretty safe to say that Vick is either guilty of commiting these crimes, or guilting of at least enabling the crimes to be committed. Either way, there is no race involved here. Either a law that has been broken or perceived to have been broken.

Why does it always come down to racism? It always becomes these people are racist and those people are racist, Who gives a ****! It's rather pathetic if you can't realize no matter who did this there would be people saying that he deserves to get ripped apart by dogs or tortured because people love animals and/or just want to get attention from there responses. And if you can't see that what your saying is just as racists and what you claim to be happening there is something wrong with you.

First of all Vick shouldn't be killed for what he did but for white ppl to say what they said and black ppl to defend him, that just shows the difference in culture. What Vick did has nothing to do with his skin color. Plenty of white ppl fight dogs too and should be punished. I guarantee you if it was a famous white guy ppl would say the same things. Alot of ppl just dont see the crime in dog fighting but that just shows how uncaring they are. No one should be concerned with the race of the person, they should be concerned with the crime!

Is Michael Vick being indicted because he is black? No. If and I do say if Michael Vick is found guilty then he should be punished. The public's opinion on Vick does have a lot to do with color of his skin though, we can all sit here and type back and forth to each other like there is no racism in America. I'm not saying that's the only thing but it's a big factor, not to acknowledge it would be a sign of ignorance. I think Vick is good QB (not a fan of him), he does his job which is making plays and putting paying fans in the seats. A black QB only has two options, either you are great or you suck. A black QB is not allowed to be average, look at the history of the sport. A black QB is expected to do more than a white QB which is to do somehting phenomenal on every play and thats what main stream media wants. Vick is not the team he is part of it and his team sucks. Players don't win champioships, teams do. Anyone out there who thinks Vick sucks then try having Rex Grossman as a QB. Michael Vick on just about any team in the NFL is an improvement (I did not say every team). For everyone out there who is prejudging Vick and WANT him to be guilty, please don't jump ship if he is found innocent. In this country how Public Opinion seems to work; you are Guilty until proven Innocent if you did not have a silver spoon in your mouth, you have a history of trouble or skin has a permanent tan. You never know another persons worries unless you have been in their skin. For all of you out there you don't believe race has a part to do with public opinion on this case than more power to you. But if you truly want to find out go to a place where people don't look like you and bring this topic up. Most of you should have read the posters comment before you answered because according to the poster most white people are persecuting him and most black people are defending him on yahoo answers. Race does seem to be a factor when it comes to public opinion. If Vick is found innocent some poeple will say it's because he had money, he had a good lawyer and they won't be happy with the verdict. If he is found guilty people will say it's because he's black. How many people will say the law prevailed no matter what the outcome is? We will let conspiracy theorists decide that one. I am neither defending Vick nor persecuting him, I will let the law decide his innocence or guilt. The indicment has nothing to do with race but public opinion does. The Duke lacrosse scandal dealt with race according to public opinion. Racism is racism you can call it reverse racism it's still the same thing.
