I've read so many generalisations about each conference's style of play but I cant keep track of them all. For example I've read multiple times that the Big 10 can't keep up with the other conferences in terms of speed but the player outside of the SEC would love to play their defences etc. So what are the general characteristics in terms of style of play for each of the following conferences:

Atlantic Coast Conference
Big 12 Conference
Big East Conference
Big Ten Conference
Conference USA
Mid-American Conference
Mountain West Conference
NCAA Division I-FBS independent schools
Pacific-10 Conference
Southeastern Conference
Sun Belt Conference
Western Athletic Conference

ACC a bunch of good, but no real great teams. Generally more fast than big. They play a mix of offense and defense.

Big 12 Generally a conference of two or three great teams and a bunch of crappy ones, that has seen a lot of parity coming back. Also balanced, but in the past it was more defense, now it is more offense.

Big East. More of a basketball conference, but has some teams emerging as national contenders, or at least ranked. Some real offensive powerhouses.

Big Ten Defense first, and usually more big than fast. In Anakin's fantasy world, they don't compete outside of the conference, but in the real world, they have a winning record against the SEC in bowl games over the last 5 years. I am not sure against the big 12, but I know Ohio State has a 28-4 record, and a 3-0 record against them in BCS bowl games. Only the SEC has more NFL players. I think that proves they can compete outside their conference.

Pac Ten Used to be a great conference top to bottom, but lately USC has dominated. Great athletes that can run or pass, and probably the best conference at producing stars historically.

SEC Very fast conference, that likes to play defense first. Traditionally it was a one horse show, with Alabama dominating for years, but in the last 20 years or so, it has become the most competitive top to bottom. I enjoy watching it second only to the big ten.

The big 12 defenses are underrated. They aren't the strongest out there this season, but the offenses have something to do with it. The top offenses in the SEC shredded SEC defenses this season, as well. In the SEC, there are some inept offenses(USC, Auburn, LSU, and MSU) that have skewered the stats. The top teams in any conference can compete with the top teams in any other conference. The ACC spanked the SEC head to head, yet some fans want to take away the ACC's BCS birth, and fans are calling the big ten weak, only because OSU lost in the championship game twice in two years, and lost again to USC this season. Don't listen to fans, they never have an objective view, and the sports casters just tell the fans what they want to hear, do your own research.http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/ Its a great website to compare the conferences and teams.

Just a comment here for the guy before me. The statement that Ohio State is 3-0 in BCS bowl games against SEC teams is just a flat-out lie. Did you forget about the *** kicking they received in last year's national championship game? Against LSU, an SEC team?? Oh, and let's not forget the raping they also received the year before that from Florida, yet again another SEC team.

ACC: No real identity except for overrated teams in the preseason who fail to live up to the hype; wait for the sleeping giants, Miami and Florida State to wake up

Big 12: Good ole-boy southern football

Big East: Bunch of overhyped teams

Big Ten: Slow teams who really cant compete outside of their pathetic conference

Pac 10: USC and everybody else. Who is going to step up for Number 2 in the conference?

SEC: Fast offense, Fast Defense, good coaches, great players
