Hey everyone. Im a Sophomore in high school in Texas where football is huge and I love football as well. My team and I just maxed on Bench pres today and I did 200 pounds 4 times. I don't know what my max is yet because my coach hasn't calculated it for me yet but he was pretty impressed because im only 5"8 and weight 145 pounds. I just want to know what you guys think a varsity safety in high school should max on bench so I can work up to that because i feel that I need to be on varsity next year if I want to have a chance at playing college football. Thanks for looking and i hope yall have good answers.

There is no weight for any lift that a certain position SHOULD be lifting. Someone can get beaten out for a position, despite the fact he can out lift by two times, by another who's a better player.

There's ten - twelve different lifts for a football workout. Why would you as a safety be concerned about the bench press, one of the least important lifts for a football player? A safety should be concentrating on his legs.

I fail to see why you would even ask this question. You could compare your weight to upper class safeties on the team to know what you should be lifting.

Actually, I have a hard time believing a 5'8", 145 lb sophomore who would ask this question is bench pressing 200 x 4.

Hey man, I think your bench total is awesome for your height and weight. I'm personally a sophomore as well, and i'm 5'6 and weigh 154, and i'm benching 205 for my max, so you're doing really good. And i know a method for calculating maxes, so your max is around 226. Forget what the haters say on here though, cuz i asked a question about football the other day myself and people gave me a lot of crap because they didnt believe my stats. HOWEVER, your bench total shouldnt mean everything. You should def try to gain weight so you have a solid size for a safety, and work on your legs and core a lot; it'll help you all around as an athlete. Keep workin hard and drink protein!

Well in the NFL the bench rep drill they do is only like 225 you just have to do as many reps as you can so I say your fine right now just keep up the work
