isn't that the most obvious example of intentional grounding when the QB spikes the ball??

intentional grounding requires that the quarterback be attempting to avoid a sack by grounding the ball; spiking is to stop the clock not avoid a sack; there is some subjective element there.

because the QB is in the pocket when he spikes the ball.

its allowed in the nfl rule book. i believe its allowed when the quarterback isnt under pressure from a defensive player. since hes not in danger of being sacked, he can do whatever he wants to do with the ball.
