Do you think dallas will finally draft good Defensive players?
Dallas is losing games because of poor secondary defense and the defensive line folding against teams with great running game of course easier said than done.

Look at all there losses this season the fault is primarily DEFENSE

Cowboys Vs Jets: cowboys up 14 start of 4th quarter than defense failed 2 TD made no time to score back.

Cowboys VS Lions: dallas up 24!! points! beginning of 3rd but defense lost it. detroit wore clock down

Cowboys Vs patriots: cowboys up 3 points 22 seconds in game left. Patriots score TD. defense fault! 8 yd pass!

Cowboys vs eagles- i dont want to talk about

Cowboys vs Cardinals- should of been a win.. Dallas defense failed to stop run in the 4th against the cardinals of all teams! and failed in OT to stop a 52 yard pass!! SECONDARY FAULT

Cowboys Vs Giants: up 2 touchdowns. Defense fails to stop like a 10 yd run and a like 2 yd pass and blows it in the last 4 minutes of the game!!

You see the problem is not romo or head coaching in my opinion. Garrett is better than parcells, campo, and phillips but not better than the last good coach we had which was switzzer. Garrett needs time but Dallas has a very good Special teams, and Offensive live and backs and receivers...

Guys' like ( robinson, dez bryant, miles austin, romo, dan bailey, felix jones, de marco murray,) are good players and guys like kosier, is good on offensive line and dockery and free do alright. But on the Defense all the have is Sean lee a LB and Ware a LB no good defensive backs or any other defensive players.

Than the game today!

I agree. It's the defense. All you have to do is look back at the 4th quarter and overtime drives that the Cowboys have given up to the opposing offenses. They can't seem to stop anyone from at least getting into field goal range, and they're not getting hardly any turnovers.

The Cowboys don't have the athleticism and speed to run the aggressive defensive scheme that Rob Ryan is trying to implement. Yes, Ware and Lee are great, and I think Bruce Carter will be a star in the league someday. But aside of those positions, the players are average at best.

The D-line is too small to stop a good running game and Dallas has to blitz to get any quality pass rushes. And when they blitz, their DBs can not cover speed WRs one-on-one. They give up way too many big plays.

The question is, what can you do about it?

There aren't that many NFL quality DL and DB guys available in a usual college draft. But depending on when they pick, a team can probably get a difference maker in the first round and maybe the second round. A team has to be really lucky to get a defensive difference maker in round 3 or later. Although it can happen.

So, I think the Cowboys should focus on defensive players in round 1 and round 2 in the 2012 draft. But who knows if they will. Waiting until the 3rd round will only get them guys who are about the same talent level as they already have.

The rookie salary restrictions outlined by the new CBA will make signing 1st and 2nd round stud guys easier. So that will help.

The other source is signing free-agent defensive guys. I haven't looked to see what level of defensive quality will be available next year. And, the Cowboys will be a lot better off with their overall salary cap next year so they should be able to compete for the better guys.

All, that said, don't look for a huge defensive roster quality change by next season. There may be a lot of new faces but don't expect a big turnaround in defensive talent. At best, the Cowboys might get 2 to 3 quality starters via the draft and free agency.

And, I'd look for Jones and Garrett to make Ryan scale back some of the more aggressive plays in his defensive scheme. The defense will become more vanilla but giving up fewer big plays could mean winning 2 or 3 games next season.

I didn't read all of that, but the defense wasn't really the problem today. The offense couldn't get anything going and it put the defense on the field more than they should have been. But in the upcoming draft they need to get a new cornerback and a new free safety (move Sensabaugh back to his more natural position of SS). The offensive line sucks too but it's doing well enough. It's mainly comprised of young players who will only get better anyway. Terence Newman needs to GO. Possibly the most overrated player in the league. He gets burned routinely, and teams even target him often when they need to convert.

@lebrondude23... You should try to look up facts before calling people out. LeBron James had 93 blocked shots in 81 games Wade had 106 blocked shots while playing in two less games. The fact is that blocks alone don't make a player a good defensive player. LeBron's blocked shots are spectacular because he comes from behind and wipes out attempted lay-up. It's the equivalent of a sucker punch. But face up or on the pick and roll.... LeBron still has a ways to go defensively. I think LeBron has improved by leaps and bounds as a defender. But he is no stopper. Wade's blocks came in a all types of fashions. facing the defender, weakside help, chasing down the defender, on the perimeter, in the paint... all while facing players much larger than him. But he also plays real D. He reads plays and anticipates passes without messing up his teams defense. He defends the pick and roll as good as anyone. He's also great at striping the ball and moving it down court as well as blocking a shot and keeping it in play. Something LeBron hardly does. I thought Wade was going to win the DPOY award. Too me he clearly deserved it.

I agree totally. Its been a problem for atleast 5-6 years and people that do not know football just blame the guy with the 3rd highest rating in the history of football. That secondary is horrendous. Its time for a few new safeties and someone to replace Newman. Jenkins hasnt been the same since his rookie year either.
