Hey Bam Bam, in 1965 Nebraska lost to Arkansas 10-7 in the Cotton Bowl.

OK Bam Bam, 39-28 Alabama. I will always admit defeat.

There will always be this smack talk until they come up with a playoff system utilizing the bowls. They should take the top 8 times (10 at most) and use the money bowls for round Robin elimination until they get a Superbowl type match up. Alabama crushed Miami 34-13 in 1993. If that's not a real national champion I don't know what is. You will always have naysayers though until they make the polls precursor to an actual playoff.

The NCAA does not recognize a National Champion. They do, however recognize voting bodies that pick National Champions. Which entities those are, I'm not sure, but this site seems to be the fairest, most unbiased assessment I have seen. Note how they recognize 11 NT's for Bama instead of the 12 the University claims?

Of course, nowadays we have the BCS as the absolute, but in the day, it was different as we all know.

Alright deacon... here we go.

1925 10-0 - An undefeated, unknown Alabama team went on the road to play in the Rose Bowl(the ONLY Bowl at the time) and beat a heavily favored Washington team to end the season a perfect 10-0. A very much deserved NT.

1926 9-0-1 - A split Championship with Stanford whom they tied in their second straight Rose Bowl appearance. A deserved split title.

1930 10-0 - Yet another victory over a PAC-10 team in the Rose blanking Washington St 24-0. A very deserved title. Did I mention that the Rose was the ONLY bowl of the time?

1934 10-0- Yet another Rose Bowl win and another perfect season. They owned the PAC 10 teams of the time.

1941 9-2 - Touche. I don't agree with the University's claim here either.

1961 11-0 - Probably the best Bama squad ever. There is no doubt about this season. The defense gave up only 2.6 points per game.

1964 10-1 - Things were the way they were. Oklahoma claims a NT from 1950 when they lost to a Bryant coached Kentucky game in the Sugar. USC and Notre Dame had similar instances, among many others. It's the way things were, but I'll give you questionable. But, if you are gonna take Bama's, you gotta take everyone elses claims of similar nature. That is a lot of rewriting of history, my friend.

1965 9-1-1 - They lost by one point to Ga in their only loss and beat Nebraska handily in the Orange. They had only lost 6 games in the previous 6 years. C'mon man, people that voted at the time were aware of Bama's dominance. I'm sure this swayed their opinions. Bama was a freakin force in the 60's. Just look at '66. No one ever talks about how an undefeated Bama team wound up #2 to a once tied ND.

1973 11-1 - In fairness, Notre Dame won 24-23 in what many claim to be one of the greatest games ever played, however, I don't agree with the U on this one either.

1978 11-1 - USC lost to Ar St that year. This poll is a true split because both polls were voted on after the game. Again, Bama had been a consistently dominant program and that swayed a lot of voters of the time.

None of the other years are even in question. By my count, that is a legit 10 National Titles. Soon to be 11. Roll Tide!

What have we learned? There is always another side of the story.

You gotta lot of nerve talking about corruption. Auburn was the first school in the SEC to go on probation for football. They enjoy the rare distinction of being put on probation twice in a single year, which no team in NCAA history besides Auburn has ever experienced. They are second in the nation in football probations with five. They have been put on probation a total of 13 years since January 1957, or 30% of the time for the last 44 years. From 1957 to 1995, Auburn was on probation 33% of the time. That's a year of probation out of every three for nearly forty years! Auburn's six probations in that span work out to an average of a probation every six years or so, with an average length of over two years. From 1951 to 1998 -- NEARLY 50 YEARS -- Auburn didn't have a single head football coach who didn't operate under probation at some point.

Coach S - I believe you are referring to the 65 Sugar Bowl which was the final game of the 64 season. The game I am referring to was the 66 Orange Bowl for the 65 season.

Alternatively, you could just be supporting a friend by watching his or her team’s game while your team is on a bye week. If that’s the case, what a good friend you are!

Hats are a unique beast in the world of sports apparel. Since hats are such a fashion statement, it really depends on which hat you have and how you wear it. Let’s say you rock a hat you’ve had in your arsenal for years. It fits just right. You don’t even care that it’s faded and may or may not have some questionable stains from last year’s Super Bowl party. You love it. You’re probably a diehard fan who’s also wearing your favorite player’s jersey underneath that hat. You go!

There has never been a "real" national champion in Div 1 college football, only "mythical" ones.

Until a playoff system is developed like there is in every other major sport, including football at every other level, there never will be a "real" national champion.

the BCS championship is the national championship for College football
Phyllis George

Universally recognized. Some teams claim a National Championship if their local paper declares them so. If you count all the claims, there are about 300 National Champions even though it is only 100 years old.

Alabama, Michigan, and USC are the biggest violators of fake claims.
anonymous

They have to truly be dominant. The 2005 Texas Longhorns might be the best example. There really was no team in the nation that could beat them, especially after they beat USC in their own backyard. There can be no doubt that they are the best team in the nation. Great question.

see the University of North Alabama from 1993 - 1995 <-- real national championships

now.. go back and take a hard look at Bama "Titles"

I just wanted to clear up a few misconceptions about Alabama's claim to 12 national championships based on fact rather than bias. Credit is given where credit is due.

To clear up confusion, the word retroactive means they went back in time to award the championship.

'TWELVE' national championships is fraudulent, nothing but pure bunk ginned up by the SID Department. Here's a rundown:

1925 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with Dartmouth. Who awarded the NC? Houlgate and Helms. Houlgate started his system in 1927. So Bama won their 1925 NC using a formula that didn't exist until 1927? Helms Athletic Foundation started in 1941. Another incredible retroactive NC.

The Associated Press Poll has been active since 1936. The AP took their final poll prior to bowl games from 1936 - 1964 and in 1966 and 1967. They took their final poll after the bowl games in 1965 and from 1968 - Current.

1926 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with 3 other teams with equal or better records! Once again it is the Helms Athletic Foundation in 1941 that awards it!

1930 National Championship- The Davis poll says that Bama tied Notre Dame for NC this year. This was the only one to award it to Bama. Notre Dame was named NC in 6 polls! Parke Davis is another retroactive system! He (an individual, not an organization) did his in 1933!

1934 National Championship- Alabama says they share this with two other teams. The awarders are Dunkel, Williamson, and Football Thesaurus. Dunkel was an individual who came up with his own system. Williamson was a geologist who came up with his own system. Football Thesaurus first appeared in 1946!

1941 National Championship- This is a complete joke. The AP ranked Alabama 20th in the nation with 14 teams with better records in the top 20. Once again it is the Football Thesaurus that retroactively awards it. Alabama finished 3rd in the SEC that year. Mississippi State won the SEC title..yet Bama claims a National title!

1961 National Championship- Finally a legitimate NC. .

1964 National Championship- While the AP did award the NC to Bama (10-1-0), Arkansas had the better record, 11-0. Alabama played Texas in their bowl and LOST. The AP final poll was before the bowl.

1965 National Championship- The AP gave this to Bama. That year there were three teams with better records than Bama. Bama 9-1-1, Michigan St 10-1-0, Arkansas 10-1-0, Nebraska 10-1-0.

1973 National Championship- AP puts Bama 4th after their bowl game loss. Bama claims a NC from the UPI poll that was taken before they met Notre Dame in the bowl game and lost. There were 3 teams with better records than Bama that year. The embarrassment of naming Alabama number one caused the UPI to name champions after bowl games. Yet Bammer has no shame in claiming it of course.

1978 National Championship- AP gives this to Alabama(11-1-0) even though USC (12-1-0) had the better record Guess who Alabama lost to that year? USC!!!!!!!!!. UPI gave the NC to USC.

1979 National Championship- Their second legitimate NC. Their first Unanimous NC.

1992 National Championship- Their third legitimate NC. Their second Unanimous NC.

You can see why people ridicule Bama fans when they talk about 12 NCs. The early ones were awarded by individuals years after the games were played. These weren't consensus polls but NCs awarded by people that had their own formula for determining champions. Some NCs were given before bowl games that Bama lost. Using Alabama logic, Auburn could claim four national championships. But when Bammers brag they like to say they have twelve and Auburn has one. How silly. The NCAA recognizes 6 NCs for Bama and there are only two NCs that Bama has unanimously. You can't find an Auburn site claiming four national championships but there are plenty Bama sites claiming twelve.Debunking the Alabama National Championship myths.

don't talk about the 60's without being honest.. how many scholarships did Bear Bryant give out for "swimming"? I mean c'mon.. here's the TRUTH about the 60's Bama was a force because they suited up 135 players compared to other teams having in the 80's.. much less than that later in the decade when Viet Nam was pulling out alot of potential players.. go back and watch tape if you want to discredit this and see how many players there are on the sidelines.. know why Bama didn't have names on their jerseys? because they'd swap them out to get fresh bodies in.. and in 78 that shouldn't have been a split.. USC BEAT ALABAMA head to head.. what part of that seems 'confusing?' realistically i'll grant Bama 1 Fair title.. 1992.. wait no.. didn't they get busted for the Albert Means deal then?.. dang I can't think of a single time in the entire existance of SPUAT football that they won titles legit without some unfair advantage (by the way for those that don't know.. SPUAT stands for Scandal Plagued University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa).. oh.. btw did they ever find out who murdered that booster that got them busted? I forget his name

I looked it up.. Logan Young..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logan_Young

of course it was ruled "accidental" lmfao

and which teams on probation right now? has been for like the last decade and will be fore what 3 more years? Auburn has never been "staring down the barrell of the death penalty" for "some of the most atrocious violations ever".. but that's not the point now is it? the point is "real national championships".. and Bama hasn't got any more than Troy State but by gawd they "got 12" and will remind you of it like it's fact
